BCH Supports Emerging Attorneys

Last Friday, September 27^th, our team at Bailey Cowan Heckaman PLLC hosted a group of 6 students from South Texas College of Law--Houston (STCL) for a moot court practice round. This opportunity is invaluable for the students as they prepare for their upcoming national competition.

On October 4-5, the students will participate in the Leroy R. Hassel, Sr. National Constitutional Moot Law Competition. This year, the “problem” allows the students to appeal the lifetime prison sentence of a woman accused of murder in the Supreme Court of East Virginia. The scenario, of course, is an imitation of the kinds of cases the students will face as working attorneys.

The annual competition is named after the late Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, Leroy R. Hassel, Sr. Chief Justice Hassel fought for constitutional rights and equality and was a supporter of the Regent University School of Law, where the competition will take place.

As our Houston students head to Virginia for court, we wish them the best of luck. The opportunity to support them was extremely special to us, as our very own Robert Cowan, Aaron Heckaman, and Andrea McGinnis were active in moot court when they attended STCL years ago. We are grateful for the opportunity to pay it forward and let young lawyers participate in the same programs that allowed our attorneys their first experiences as nationwide trial lawyers.
