Groups Pushing for Congress to Reject Asbestos Bill

A new bill that would require victims of asbestos exposure to make their personal information public when seeking compensation is receiving a bad reception from various groups. First responders, teachers, and veterans are strongly opposing the Furthering Asbestos Claim Transparency act, or FACT Act.

The FACT Act would make it so those who are filing for compensation must share their personal information. This is because trusts would have to file quarterly reports on public dockets based on victims seeking payment and what payments were made.

Many believe that the FACT Act would leave asbestos exposure victims vulnerable to companies who have their personal information and are there to avoid paying compensation.

At Bailey Cowan Heckaman PLLC, our mesothelioma attorneys believe that victims of asbestos exposure should have the right to keep their personal information private. This is a difficult time in which failure to warn may have caused an individual to be exposed to asbestos-containing buildings or materials. When this happens, an individual can develop serious asbestos-cancer, or mesothelioma.

Victims of mesothelioma have the right to seek compensation for the condition they incurred as a result of someone else’s inaction. They shouldn’t have to divulge information that some big companies may try to use as delay tactics or to avoid paying out any kind of compensation. Republicans believe that the trusts used to pay mesothelioma patients should be protected from fraudulent behavior and claims.

To learn more about the FACT Act or to seek compensation after developing mesothelioma, contact our firm today. We take the time to determine if your condition was caused by negligent exposure to asbestos and what legal action you may be able to take. Our team is here to help you move forward in the most positive manner possible.
